Today, my friend Danielle and I hosted a bridal shower for our dear friend, Joelle. Before I begin, let me enlighten you about our history.

You see, Joelle's fiancé, Peter and my husband, Calvin are friends with Danielle. Calvin and Peter have been friends ever since they were young lads and while enduring adolescents, the boys became friends with Danielle. Throughout the years, the dynamic trio has shared hysterical laughs, harmless-good ol' trouble, and true loyalty towards each other.

About three years ago, we all somehow {almost the same time}, found our special someone. Cal and I married in June, 2009. Danielle and her husband, Josh, married in September, 2009. And, now Peter and Joelle are getting married this May!

When we get together it's like on the show Friends, at Central Perk. Instead of the small business coffee shop, we prefer beer and greasy eats -- Old Chicago. Our gang has multiple conversations {at once}, same table {almost} every time {same waiter, too!}, causal bullshitting, and wise-cracks from the guys. Most importantly, we annoy whoever is sitting around us; we swear and talk about bumping uglies -- we're extremely loud. Yes, we are that group! Don't you love us? It's usually late at night, so no worries, and no kiddos around.

After the homemade breakfast bread pudding, bacon, garlic and herb tomatoes, parmesan and thyme crackers and angel food cake.

We played a game and read Joelle a panty poem, and then it was time for gifts!

The Parmesan and Thyme Crackers in the making at 1:30A.M.

Ina Garten's Recipie:

1/4 pound {1 stick} unsalted butter {room temp}

3 ounces grated Parmesan

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons of water

Place the butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment and mix until creamy. Add the Parmesan, flour, salt, thyme and pepper and combine.

Dump the dough on a lightly floured board and roll into a 13-inch long log. Wrap the log in plastic wrap and place in the freezer for 30 minutes to harden.

Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Cut the log crosswise into 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick slices. Place the slices on a sheet pan and bake for 22 minutes.

Greetings from Meggie! I haven't blogged since I was 7 weeks old. I should give you an update!

I'm snuggly, sweet, mighty strong and did I mention I have lots of energy? I know the words 'Treat' and 'Walk' exceptionally well. I love going on long walks and I can play fetch for hours. I am still in the process of training; although, boy, I sure can point! At times, well, I guess all the time, I'm pretty naughty. But, that's what us pups do, am I right? According to my Grandpa, there's a Marley in me everyday!

I’m an awfully picky eater, surprisingly enough for a puppy of my breed. I’ve been on four different brands of puppy chow. The only brand of food I can justify to eat is Nutro Natural Choice; I gorge {whole} every single morsel! About a month ago, I was switched to big girl food, Nutro Natural Choice, Lamb & Rice. It is very yummy and it helps me stay healthy.

Or, I guess you could say, Meg in the jailhouse. I believe that is appropriate enough.

Last night {at work} my BlackBerry was ringing off the hook. After a couple of times of snubbing my husband's phone calls, I finally answered, "Yes Dear?" Right when I answered I knew something was wrong. You see my husband is a very happy-go-lucky type of guy on the phone. When I answered, Cal was quiet {again, not like him} and the resonance in his voice was nervous. In a calm manner he proceeded to tell me what had happened to Meggie. Cal had every reason to be nervous because I can be such a spazz.

What our fearless pup-child did was running around like a wild-carefree animal, trying to antagonize her over 100lb.uncle {Cal's parents' lab}. While basically acting like an ravaging animal, she ran under Cal's parents' deck, where there happens to be a sailboat lying on its side. Meg ran right along the sailboat and snagged herself on a hook. Cal and my father-in-law heard her yelp and rushed down from the deck to check on her. When they got to her they noticed she was missing a chuck of skin on her left side. The bleeding would not stop and Cal took her to our closet Banfield pet hospital.

After 2 1/2 hours and over $400 dollars later, the Vet stitched up our crazy-little girl.

Let me remind you not too along go, Meg was bit by a non-socialized lab in the neighborhood. It was 7 at night and the only Banfield that was open was the one St. Paul. Keep in mind, this is close to an hour away from us. Again, another 2 hours and over $200 later, our puppy's hole in her cheek was all patched up.

So, in a month and a half our vet bills have totaled over $600. Luckily we have the pet wellness plan {basically, pet insurance} through Banfield.

For the time being this wild child will be in the doghouse for a while, well at least until she heals.

Fortunately, she's OK to go to her obedience class tonight! Meggie is in her 2nd week of training and it's goin' great!

{ Tis' the Season. }

Tis' the season for weddings, and, so many of them this year! Hard to imagine a year ago, Cal and I were rushing around Minnetonka and Minneapolis to finalize final details with our vendors. Even though it was so much work, it was such an exciting time for the both of us. {I was fortunate to have a helpful fiancé.}It was very seldom when planning became stressful; needless to say, I was extremely organized and to the point of being so organized, I surprised our florist {at our first meeting} by pushing away her book of samples of bouquets and saying "I won’t be needing that."

My new favorite DVR recording is Giada at Home. It's basically a sneak peak into the Everyday Italian star, {Giada de Laurentiis'}, world! Just like Ina Garten, Giada has tasteful style and recipes. {Which I adore!!} For those of you who have seen Giada's show, you have more than likely have seen the very cute stoneware egg crate, in which she holds all of her cage-free, organic eggs. Too cute and fun! It always catches my eye and every show I watch of hers, I say to myself, "Where can I find me one of those?"

I normally browse {Anthropologie's} site to look at darling tops, dresses, and home textiles. Today, while looking at Anthro's kitchen page, I came across the exact same stoneware egg crate that Giada uses on her show. Way too cool. I swear I am the only one who gets excited over chic cook wear.

Anthro calls it, Farmer's Egg Crate; stores a dozen eggs and comes in colors, sky and white. And, not to mention only 14 buckaroos! What a heavenly deal!

I ordered the white, {Shouldn't be such a shock to you folks.} but the sky color is just as adorable.

This is a must buy!

I hope everyone had a wonderful week by adjusting to day lights savings. My internal clock kicked in and didn't want to lose my extra hour of sleep. To me, that's a lot to take away. My husband still laughs at me when there's 2 minutes before I have to get up and I will take advantage of every second of those 2 minutes.

Last Sunday, {heaven forbid my lack of sleep}; my Dad and Suzanne came over to help me paint our guest bedroom down stairs. {Same color as our master bedroom.} It was fun to learn how to paint the 'right way'. Some talent my Father neglected to pass genetically to me, along with his patience. I swear the man can do it all.

After painting, I was explaining my decorating ideas to my Dad and my thoughts of hiring help to paint the majority what's left of the house. Why not paint it myself? I have high vaulted ceilings and I'm a poor painter. I might be a fantastic cook; however, I am woman enough to admit when I suck incredibly at something.

Getting to the main point, my Dad offered that he would paint for me! I would pay for his time {a fraction of what a profesional painter would charge}and labor. What a deal!

I'm still looking for colors, fortunately, I have found some favorites. In the time being, I do have some colors I would like to do for a certain spot in the house. I have selected colors from {Pottery Barn.}

While looking at different colors and such, I began looking at the {Pottery Barn Catalog}and found some chic chandeliers.

So, this past month has been pretty crazy for us Smiths. LITERALLY! Cal was promoted, his highest position thus far. I am so proud of him and so incredibly grateful for the things he does to support our family. Myself, after two long years trying to make headway into a desired career path with a certain company, finally, I was able to interview and was offered THE JOB! That's right, makin' big girl money now! It applies to the degree I'll be graduating with and learning those crucial - new skill sets before completing college. A few months before 2009 was towards its end, I prayed to God everyday to help follow the right path and find the job that I have always wanted. I cherish how fortunate I am and will not take anything for granted.

Lastly but not least, Meggie Mae. Yes, Meggie has progressed into a fine healthy young dog. However, we believe her behavior has gotten the worst of her. My Mom calls it "She's in her terrible twos!" Yeah -- terrible twos my ass. It's like this oh-so sweet puppy has the devil in her. Meggie right now is 8 months and I cannot wait for this devilish chewing, biting, jumping and acting obnoxious stage ends in a few months. Unfortunately, that's me dreaming. Yes, of course it's nice she's not pissing and pooping all over the place but c'mon {!!!} the poor manners has gots to go. We still do the daily trainings and dominance trainings with her. Nevertheless, I think we need some help. After Meggie's embarrassing behavior at her photo shoot, which I won't get into details because that's a page or two long just to explain; I've been pricing out dog trainers for private lessons and boarding schools. And, I hope whomever we pick will indeed help us with Meggie's challenging behavior.

For some of my previous posts explaining Meggie being out of her crate alone for a few hours is out of the question now. This past month her 'Terrible Twos' avenged out on us, she's an 8 month old puppy who gets bored very easily.

Cal and I just finished two out of thirteen rooms in our home in a week! That's huge progress for us non-painters. It's been a enjoy making our home our own. We blared a local radio station and went to work on our new lyndhurst timber walls in our master bedroom. A few days before we painted our study, the color we pick was the Eddie Bauer, pine needle.

When we purchased our home a year ago as of tomorrow, we were fortunate enough to walk into a blank canvas. However, for the half of the time we've lived here, the plain-matte carpenters paint is starting to annoy me. All I see is cheap whitewash around me. The worst of it is, it gets dirty quickly and extremely hard to clean.

My goal is every pay period I will buy one to two gallons of paint and to finish a room. So far it's been going well!

I hope everybody had a blissful Valentine's Day! Cal and I sure did! We don't go all out on V-Day, it really isn't a major holiday for us. However, this year was a little bit more special than the others. This year we are MARRIED and it was wonderful for myself to pick out a gushy 'Husband' Valentine card. Nevertheless, I had a ball going through tons of cards with the word 'Husband' on it!

What I received: My husband gave me a tear-jerker card, roses and a stuff animal. He knows how to get me!

Isn't it a wonderful day, today? Well it sure is for me! Day off from mind-numbing work and people, apple-mango-tango laundry is tumbling, duvets are fluffed, and peace--Meggie consumed with hiding her bones in couch cushions. I am usually too tired to blog when I come home from work, sad, but undeniably factual. Right as I pull into our garage there's a routine I follow:

Turn off car and radio
Grab lunch bag and coffee tumbler
Set lunch bag and coffee tumbler by the garage door steps
Walk to the mail box. *A Hike: If you're a clumsy female like myself: who wears fancy-slippery ballet flats: who has a long driveway: who lives in a neighborhood that has shitty snowplow men: who does not scrap off any damn ice or snow in the street. *So yeah, that's an adventure all its self.
Walk back from the mail box, the adventure repeats while cussing.
Tries gracefully while having mail in hand and attempts to snatch lunch bag and coffee tumbler all at once.
Walks through garage door into the house
Greeted by an excited six-month-old canine and everything in hands goes into the air.
Let out the naughty excited six-month-old canine to "Go Be Quick," AKA: Potty.
Put coat and shoes in closet.
Pick up stuff that was dropped.
Walk upstairs.
Set down (not so gracefully) the mail, lunch bag, coffee tumbler and handbag on the island.
Walk down stairs.
Let in the excited six-month-old canine.

*And, if it Thursdays, bring the garbage can back into garage.

Fortunately, today I can erase that lists of steps off of my day.

To continue on my joyous day off;

After Cal left for work, folding laundry and putting it away upstairs. I decided to take a coffee break and watch some TV. Sipping my coffee and successfully not burning my tongue, I flipped through channels of prime time morning television. Price is Right was just was not doing it for me and I flipped to the next channel. It was The Martha Stewart Show! Which I haven't seen in forever because I work in the mornings. I use to watch that show all the time and What Not to Wear on TLC when I took my beloved Oma to chemo treatments.

The Martha Stewart Show's topic today: The Family Show, dedicated to all things family. Turn life's memorable moments into charming keepsakes with scrap-boxes from Weddings editorial director Darcy Miller, and make hearty, kid-friendly ribs with chef Emeril Lagasse and his son, E.J.

Being a foodie and all, I wasn't quite impressed by the 'BAM!' phenomenon; however, his child son was a comedic cutie. What intrigued me the most was Martha's editorial director, Darcy Miller. Her creativeness, witty personality and not to mention her three adorable little girls, made me to continue to follow the program instead of flipping through channels. Her ultimate passion besides her beautiful girls is scrap-booking. I've always wanted to learn more about elegant scrap-booking and her vision was even better. She took her love of scrap-booking to scrap-boxes!

Below is a sample of her work. This weekend I'll be in search of photo boxes. My vision is to put my bridal ballet flats from Grace Footwear with a wedding photo.

Another idea that I have is to do what Darcy did, a wedding photo with the wedding invitation. I'll make sure to post my finished products as once as I am finished!

The How to Do:

With a few household and crafts materials, you can frame a collection of family mementos, creating an interesting display. Here are some of the ways Darcy Miller, editorial director of Martha Stewart Weddings, puts them to use. 1/4-inch-thick foam board: Back photos, illustrations, and paper ephemera for extra depth, or add a layer or two inside baby clothes for a filled-out look.

Adhesive dots: Give a child's dress fabric folds with these reusable dots, or hold open the lid of a mounted watercolor set.

Background paper: Add a pop of color to the box wall, or choose a similar-hued one to let the objects take center stage. Mount it on foam board if you plan to secure items with straight pins or wire.

Craft glue: Stick tiny dots of confetti outside the glass for a snowdrift, or dangle a silver streamer from the frame's top. Double-sided foam tape: Adhere heavier items, such as a small dress, to paper or foam board.

Double-sided tape: Affix a photo to the inside of the frame's glass with a small sliver of tape, or attach circles of confetti to background paper.

Straight pins: Secure little ballet slippers or bikini ties to background paper mounted on foam board. For a clean look, snip the pinheads off with wire cutters after pushing them in.

Wire: Display "floating" sunglasses and swimming goggles with pieces of wire looped through holes in foam board, twisting the wire ends in the back.

{ Mornings with Droopy Eyes. }

Lately, my chilly - winter mornings are consisting of my (our) bed, glasses at the tip of my pale-freckled nose, hot mug of Teavana tea, Blackberry --reading updated blogaged and almost 6-month-old Amarillo friend, Droopy Eyes. Miss Droopy Eyes, aka, Meggie Mae, has progressed into a fine little lady. She no longer grunts like a little piggy, minimum accidents, and no longer sleeps in the bath tub anymore. However, she still tries to climb into the shower while it's in use. Not as obnoxious as before, but her progression is becoming much better. As of recently, Cal and I have been stepping out of our comfort zone and letting our furry little girl roam as she pleases while 'Mom and Dad' are away. It's only an hour or two, ('Mom and Dad' grocery shopping and what not) so far, Meggie has had no accidents and 'Mom's' glorified Christmas tree was still STANDING! Quite impressive for a little lab pup. It will probably be a whole another year until we will completely trust her out of her kennel alone. Nevertheless, progress is progress, right?

In the last month or so, Meggie has developed a new, but strange obsession of crawling and sleeping underneath beds. Maybe some of you might not think its weird, however, Cal and I have never known a dog quite like that. It's very weird; for one, Meggie is not a tiny puppy and two, she can't even crawl out afterward! Luckily for Meggie, her 'Daddy' loves her to pieces. A few days after this obsession turned into a daily habit, Cal went out to good 'ol Tar-Zhay and purchased bed risers. Awe! Just for his little girl. His facetious reason was so Meggie would be more comfortable. (At least now I know when we start having kids, Cal will be very adjusting to our kid's needs/wants.) Even though, I feel like an Olympian when I practically hurdle into our freakishly tall bed; peacefully, I will know our little girl is at least breathing and snoozing away.

a Vacation! What I mean is -- I seriously need 'vacation therapy'. Most of 2010 will consist of work overload for Cal and I and an abundance of wedding bliss. Two of the weddings will take place in New Jersey and Utah! Both of them, I will be counting as vacations for 2010. Cal and I never had a honeymoon, so hopefully in 2011 we can go on our very first honeymoon.

Snorkeling and deep sea fishing, and romantic dinners under the stars!

But for right now, some Anthroplogie therapy will just have to do.

It's 2010 and it's also time to reinvent ourselves!

OK [!], time to begin with the 2010 Smith-Style New Year Resolutions...

I. Financial Style.
After a new home, wedding, Meggie and the holidays, it's time for Cal and I to take it back a notch and start mega saving. We practically have everything we need and unfortunately, even our impulsive wants. This upcoming Sunday, Cal and I will be going over our budget and expenses and hopefully addressing while eliminating our unnecessary spending. Luckily, we concur together that we rather be sittin' pretty while saving.

For the record, I am not the prominent impulsive buyer in the relationship, it's my husband. Whether that's a good thing or not. Peculiar isn't it?

II. Fitness Style.
Cal and I are both members to a fitness facility. The thing is either I'm not going enough or Cal doesn't have the time to go.We use to work out together and both would like to continue that routine. Early morning or late at night doesn't concern us, all that matter we spend time together while exercising. We just gotta do it!

III. As for just me. Well...
Live like every day was my last -adventurous out of a whim. Find inner peace with myself, loved ones and God. Find a happier and passionate career path. Laugh until I cry.

I hope everyone enjoyed the 2009 holiday season -- We definitely did!

Here are some recipes ideas to keep in mind for the 2010 holiday season. These were my top (melt-in-your-mouth) picks from my lovely consumers [our families!].

Bourbon-Pecan Pumpkin Butter Pie:

Ingredients:
4 eggs
2 cups (about 1 1/2 jars) pecan pumpkin butter
1 3/4 cups plus 1 tbs. evaporated milk
2 tbs. bourbon
1 prebaked and cooled deep dish pie crust (I made my own dough and the decorative leaves)
Whipped cream for serving

Preheat oven to 325ºF.

In a large mixing bowl, gently whisk the eggs. Add the pecan pumpkin butter, evaporated milk and bourbon and whisk until well combined. Pour the filling into the prebaked pie crust and bake until the center of the pie is set., 1 to 1 1/4 hours. Check crust after 30 minutes; if the edges begin to brown too quickly, cover them with aluminum foil. Let the pie cool at least 4 hours before serving.

Serves 8 to 10.

Fudge-Swiss Chocolate Trifle:

Ingredients:

1 box of Duncan Hines, Swiss Chocolate cake mix

1 pkg. of Jello, Chocolate Fudge pudding

1 pkg. of Hershey's, Heath Bar; Toffee Bits (pre-chopped)

2 8 oz. Kraft, Cool Whip (original flavor)

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. Prepare, bake and cool cake as directed on the Duncan Hines package.

While the cakes are baking, prepare as directed on the Jello pudding's instructions. Once the cakes are cooled, cut cakes into bite size-squared pieces.

First Step:

Layer the bottom of the trifle bowl with the bite size cake pieces until the glass surface is completely covered.
Pour half of the pudding mixture on top of the cake, blend evenly with spoon.
Take the amount of Cool Whip as needed to blend evenly on top of pudding.
Sprinkle lightly the amount of the Hershey's Heath topping as desired. (don't go over half of the bag)

Second Step: Repeat the first step.

Dear beloved family & friends,

We've had a happy, busy year here in the Smith household!

In the mist of Calvin's new career path at AT&T Mobility, Amanda finishing up a semester at NHCC and not to mention hectic wedding planning, Cal and Amanda decide in the new year of 2009 to search for their very first home! Luck struck them in February, as the engaged couple found a cute four bedroom - two bath, split level home in a comfortable west-metro Minnesota suburb.

June rolled in quickly, where on Friday, June 12th, 2009, Calvin Gregory Smith and Amanda Lauren Bennett exchanged their intimate vows in front of their close family and friends. No day has ever been so beautiful and will remain forever cherished.

Now, you would think after buying a home and elegant nuptials, that these Newlyweds would be spent? Think again! On August 30th, 2009, Mr. and Mrs. Smith adopted a six week old, purebred yellow-Labrador named Meggie Mae. They couldn't be any more pleased! Miss Meggie Mae at five months has progressed into a fine little lady!

We hope this season brings you Cherished Traditions, Hot Cocoa, Joy, Laughter, Love, and Peace as well as new Tiding Beginnings!

On Monday, Meggie experienced her first snowfall. At first she was a little apprehensive and then, [SNAP!] she dove right into the white powder. I have never seen a dog experience a new season. My family's dogs were never as intrigued into snow quite like Meggie. For some of you who don't know Meggie let me enlighten you:
Meggie is not a ordinary dog who just eats, poops and sleeps. She is extremely fascinated with water and may I mention bath tubs. Yes, I said it, bath tubs. Every morning she tries to hurdle over our cheap fiberglass tub while you take your shower. Cal and I who have had grown up with dogs have never experienced this until now. At first it was cute but now we have to have one of us watch her or lock her up in her crate when it's shower time. Meggie also requires a tub for her little cat naps. The tub is usually required when Mom is cleaning or she is exhausted from attacking our Dyson.

Fall is finally here! Majority of all of you know it's my [up most] favorite time of year. The coloring of the trees, leaves scattered in yards, apple orchards -- homemade apple crisp, turtlenecks with funky scarves and not to mention J.Crew's fall line of suede ballet flats. I couldn't be any happier!

This is my first fall away from my parents. I love the freedom and sharing a home with my new husband but, I do miss waking up on the weekends finding my Mom in the kitchen making a hearty breakfast while cleaning up the house as I struggled to get ready for work. Or one of my favorite regular memories, Sunday afternoons as my Mom makes a mouth-watering roast, my brother Marty upstairs taking apart 'god-knows-what' and myself, doing homework in the living room while looking out the front windows watching autumn push oranges, reds and yellows back and forth throughout our street. I miss my old view and thankfully, I am starting to get use to our new canvas. Our home is not complete and that might be a part of the dilemma. Cal and I are always doing home improvements, adding our own delicate touches and soon we will be able to paint! I still need to meet with an interior designer to help us gather ideas how to paint our combined kitchen-living space. And yes, I know most of you older folks are thinking -- 'Geez! Those dang hardships of homeowners in their twenties!’

Unfortunately, this fall season has been rainy and snowy, however, still delightfully wonderful to me.This upcoming Sunday morning we are going to an apple orchard and enjoying what's left our recently so called 'fall' this year.

I am a purebred yellow Labrador! In fact, I have a hunting background in my blood!

I was born on July 13, 2009 and forever home on August 30, 2009. I love my new home, especially my new Mom and Dad!

My new Dad is a hunter and he is going to teach me how to hunt! I am already practicing...well, I'm a little too young but I love fetching for my bumper! Hopefully in a year or so, I'll be ready for my first hunt with my Dad and Grandpa Greg!

I love sleeping--cat naps in my new crate, water (can't get enough it!), Mr. Pig (my beloved stuffed animal), grunting (sometimes my parents call me Miss Piggy), throwing and chasing toys for myself, being a socialite, my goosed-down red blankie, playing and learning things from Grandpa David and Dad and snuggling with Mom!

My kibble of choice is Nutro's Natural Choice, Large Breed Puppy: Controlled Growth Formula. Large and giant breeds are prone to rapid growth, which could lead to hip and joint problems. This food provides a unique blend of key nutrients needed to help maintain healthy, balanced growth from weaning to maturity.

I may get into a lot of trouble but you cannot deny how CUTE I am!

A few days ago, Cal and I received all of our wedding proofs. It was so exciting to actually hold and view the photos from that day! Funny thing is, I only remember bits and pieces from that day--you could say my mind was in a blur. I am so thankful I found our photographer, her photo-journalistic art told a story about our wedding day and having that amazing photographer truly makes a impact how well you'll remember your wedding day.

Big Thanks to our parents, wedding party, vendors and of course, to our fabulous guests who shared our happiness on that day!

Northwestern suburban couple wishes to be married in their favorite city-- downtown Minneapolis mansion to fit the bill!

A historical mansion {Gale Mansion} located in the heart of the exclusive Mansion District of Minneapolis is filled with guests and flowers - the bride awaited in her room with a Chantilly Sherry et Cie handkerchief, rhinestone earrings with a hanging teardrop pearl by Erica Koesler and a graciously adorned white bouquet in hand with beautifully crafted dark ivory satin rouching . Groom awaited her at the front of the mansion in a Savvi Formalwear tux with touches of paisley. Guests were given custom made programs, wrapped with dark ivory bellyband with the couple initials engraved on it by Letter Perfect in Deephaven.

The Gale Mansion is gorgeous. Mansion doors open and guests gasp at the vibrant floral by Lisa Killian of Petals to Pines and old family wedding photographs. Guests were surrounded by 14th century tapestries, Bedford limestone, eight fireplaces, walnut and mahogany woodwork, oriental carpets, original china, paintings, furniture, antiques and sculptures of the Gale Family. To keep the occasion light and casual, guests dined on an assortment of domestic and imported cheeses, baguettes, crackers and fresh fruits, a chocolate fountain with assorted dipping items, miniature tarts, and pastry swans filled with mousse and a custom made cake designed by David Mess of Buttercream in Wayzata.

The sounds of the harpist, Catherine Victorsen, filled the mansion during the couples’ intimate ceremony and guests danced later to music from DJ Neon Express Entertainment.

Amanda and Calvin had the wedding of their childhood dreams, and are living happily ever after.

The guidelines below will give you an idea of what it was like to be a ‘wife in the 1950s, and what it’s like to be a ‘wife today. What hasn’t changed from then to now is how hard women worked to create a wonderful life for themselves and their partners and families. How To Be a Good Wife

Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal, on time. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospect of a good meal are part of the warm welcome needed.

Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so that you’ll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your makeup, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people. Be a little gay and a little more interesting. His boring day may need a lift.

Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the home just before your husband arrives, gather up schoolbooks, toys, paper, etc. Then run a dust cloth over the tables. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift, too.

Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash the children’s hands and faces (if they are small), comb their hair, and if necessary change their clothes. They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part.

Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer, dishwasher, or vacuum. Try to encourage the children to be quiet. Be happy to see him. Greet him with a warm smile and be glad he is home.

Some Don’ts: Don’t greet him with problems or complaints. Don’t complain if he is late for dinner. Count this as minor compared with what he might have gone through that day. Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or suggest he lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him. Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soft, soothing and pleasant voice. Allow him to relax and unwind.

Listen to him. You may have a dozen things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first.

Make the evening his. Never complain if he does not take you out to dinner or to other places of entertainment. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure, his need to be home and relax.

The Goal: Try to make your home a place of peace and order where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit.

How To Be a Good Housewife

Calvin and I moved the wedding date up a year (June 12, 2009!), now, we need to start thinking about engagement pictures. Our goal is to have them completed before Thanksgiving of 2008.

I have been pondering about different types of engagement pictures that we can do. For instance, walking in a relatively known park in Minneapolis. However, simply everyone seems to do that for engagement pictures these days. I love the idea of Cal and I walking in a park in early autumn. But, we want to be different! Perhaps, sometimes it is good to be different!

Any suggestions?
